About the Artist

Mary Remick-Lafond was raised in the Arcadia and Pasadena
area of Southern California. She has been painting and drawing for
her own pleasure for most of her life. Mary majored in art and art
history at the University of California Santa Barbara, where she received
her B.A. degree and her Art teaching credential.
Following the raising of her two daughters and
retiring from a successful business career, she has returned to her
first love, painting. Her subject matter is usually landscapes which
are started on location and finished in her studio. She says she never
really "saw a tree" until she picked up a paint brush. She calls herself
an impressionist landscape painter and enjoys using strong color and
light.
Mary has exhibited in galleries, museums, and colleges
throughout the South Western United States. Her paintings hang in
private and corporate collections. She is the founder of the Eastern
Sierra Art League, a group of artists living in the Eastern Sierras,
who are painting the history and landscape of the area between Ridgecrest,
California to Reno, Nevada. After nine years of living and painting
in Bishop, Mary has returned to the Santa Barbara area and her studio
is now located in Goleta, California.
